Kicking The Man

Last night I was watching UK Music Hall Of Fame: 1970s. They give a rundown of ten groups and artists, with a ten-minute mini-documentary about each, then you ring a premium rate number to vote for your favourite. Unless, like me, you couldn’t care less who wins and just wanted to get upset at the fact that Earth Wind and Fire weren’t nominated.

During the mini-documentaries, they interview B-list celebs about why they think Abba are the greatest band of all time, and how the Bee Gees changed their lives. I think this is supposed to make the case for each group more persuasive, but to be honest, having Kym Marsh say you can sing in tune isn’t really much of a compliment.

I don’t really like famous people. I don’t think there are many famous people that I would genuinely like to meet, and would be impressed by what they had to say. Tony Benn maybe.

But I’ve decided that, if I ever meet Kym Marsh or any similar Z-list celeb, I’m going to ask them if I can give them my autograph. These people get sucked up to far too much. It’s about time someone knocked them down.
